Division 1 Establishment of the Court
(1) There shall be a District Court of New South Wales.(2) The Court shall be a court of record.(3) There shall be a seal of the Court, and any document required by or under this or any other Act or law to be sealed or stamped with the seal of the Court shall be so sealed or stamped.
9 Jurisdiction of the Court generally
(1) The Court shall have a civil jurisdiction, consisting of:(a) its jurisdiction conferred by Part 3, and(b) the jurisdiction conferred by or under any other Act or law on the Court, not being its jurisdiction referred to in subsection (2).(2) The Court shall have a criminal jurisdiction, consisting of:(a) its jurisdiction conferred by Part 4, and(b) the jurisdiction conferred by or under any other Act or law on the Court in its criminal jurisdiction.
The Court, wherever sitting, shall, subject to this Act, have jurisdiction throughout the whole of New South Wales.
11 Single Judge to constitute the Court
(1) All civil and criminal proceedings in the Court, and all business arising out of any such proceedings, shall, subject to this Act and the Jury Act 1977, be heard and disposed of before a Judge, who shall constitute the Court.(2) Subsection (1) does not affect the provisions of this Act and the civil or criminal procedure rules concerning the hearing and disposal of civil and criminal proceedings and business before a registrar or other officer of the Court.
