(1) A licensed network operator or licensed retail supplier may appoint any of its employees or agents as a meter reader.(2) Each meter reader so appointed must be issued with an identity certificate containing the following:(a) the name of the meter reader,(b) the name of the network operator or retail supplier,(c) a passport-style photograph of the meter reader’s face,(d) a statement to the effect that, pursuant to this Act, the meter reader is authorised to read meters on behalf of the network operator or retail supplier.(3) A meter reader so appointed may, during normal business hours, enter any premises for the purpose of reading a meter that measures:(a) water supplied from water mains that are controlled by the network operator or by means of which the retail supplier supplies water to those premises, or(b) sewage discharged into sewer mains that are controlled by the network operator or by means of which the retail supplier provides sewerage services to those premises.(4) On request by any person who appears to be in occupation of the premises, a meter reader so appointed must produce his or her identity certificate for inspection.Maximum penalty: 10 penalty units.
(5) This section does not authorise a meter reader to enter such part of a building as is being used for residential purposes except with the consent of the occupier.
